Question: Please explain to me these simple phrases (English is my second language)?
I’ve just started watching “How an Economy grows and Why it doesn’t” on Youtube.
Here are some phrases in the movie that I can not understand, please give me some easy to understand explanations:

1) “Fishing by hand is no bucket of bass”. What is “bucket of bass”?
2) “This is survival, and that’s about all”. What is “that’s about all”
3) “The next day B and C make much sport of A’s invention”. What is “make much sport of”?
4) “A is nobody’s fool”. What is “nobody’s fool”?
5) What does this phrase mean: “Not everybody is cut out for self-deprivation”?
6) “I might want to eat them if I’m ever sick or something happens”. What is ” If I’m ever sick”
7) “man, what a pig-out”. What is “what a pig-out”? 8) Why they use “2 fish” instead of “2 fishes”

Thank you very much!

I’m English and I’m sorry but I can only help you with a few of the numbers.

4) By nobody’s fool I believe they mean “A” doesn’t do what anyone one wants and nobody controls him.

5) Not everybody can stand to deprive (go without) themselves of something.

7) To “pig out” is a phrase used to describe eating a lot of food sometimes very messily.
8) I don’t know why we do this, it’s just an unusual grammar rule we use for example we say 2 sheep instead of 2 sheeps.

I really hope I helped :) x

Question: Fish Tank Help PLEASE?
I may be the dumbest and inexperienced fish owner after reading and reading stuff, I just want what’s best for the fish alright here’s my situation.

I didn’t set up my tank until after I bought the fish. I went into the store saw the fish and got to excited and wanted to start my aquarium so at the store I bought the fish brought them home set up the fish tank after a day I put the fish in the tank. Also I use tap water or city water? I heard you’re not suppose to use that but I have no clue what to use. When adding the water I used “tetra aqua agua safe makes tap water safe for fish” and after about 5 days went to the pet store and they told me about ammonia levels and stuff like that so they told me to use “tetra safe start allows immediate addition of fish reduces ammonia and nitrite prevents new tank syndrome” I’ve only had the fish for 2 weeks and they all seem to be doing fine they all are alive. I brought a water sample to a pet store and they tested three things I’m not sure what they test but they said it was all good except my ammonia is high but it looks like it’s going down and starting the nitrate level so I hope that’s good. In my tank I bought pebbles for the bottom of the tank some live plants that are growing and a skull to swim around. I have a filter to my tank I bought one of those 10 gallon fish tank set ups from wal mart. As of right now in my 10 tank aquarium I have a: 1 pleco, 1 spotted puffer, 1 bala shark, 1 type of small catfish not sure what?, 1 glo fish. I’m also a college student and during christmas time we have a 3 week break which no one will be down here to take care of them so how do I go upon feeding and cleaning the tank so the fish stay alive?
I’m unsure how often to clean the tank? what chemicals to put in? how often to take out are my fishes healthy? when can I get more fish? and I’m sure you guys have more concerns and more advice you can give me I’ll take anything I just want to make sure my fish are fine just please give me help I need everything

sorry this is long I just want to know what my tank is like and how you guys can help me
also it has a light if that helps too…

The main concern you have while the tank is cycling is the ammonia spike, which sounds likeyou are getting through, but then there is a nitrate spike that is pretty big. You’ll want to continue to do partial water changes (30% or so) every few days. treat the new water for chlorine and chloramines.

While you are at it, next time you stop in the fish store, get a master test kit and learn how to use it. They are more accurate than the strips that most pet stores use, and it’s helpful for evaluating problems. You need to understand what your tap water looks like chemically. pH, hardness, copper, and whether the incoming water has any ammonia (a problem recently posted here). You need to know what you are working with for raw materials.

At the same time, do some serious research on the fish you have. Understand their needs and what conditions they like best. If you bought several types of fish on impulse, most likely you have fish that need different water conditions. That doesn’t mean they can’t live together, it just means the water conditions have to be a compromise and that hurts the immune system of all the fish involved. That means you have to be diligent about keeping the maintenance up to speed.

Good luck
